EXHIBITION DEVELOPMENT + DESIGN

Waste Matters — University of the Arts Project

Between the solar trashcans and the street litter, it is easy to think about trash in Philly.
The real challenge is to empower visitors to think about where it goes after it disappears.
I aimed to create an art-gallery inspired, engaging exhibition on trash using bold color accented by industrial textures of plywood, metal, and concrete. The color palette and gestalt divide the exhibition between the process of landfill/incineration systems and reuse/recycling. Iconic installations and large-scale photography visually dominate the space, while simple graphic panels, innovative art/design objects and interactive audio devices provide the narrative. Visitors will wear hard hats to hear the voices of the people who really know trash. This assignment involved concept development and design of some construction documents to meet specific spatial and budget parameters.
